SPID mMitra Programme

SPID is working for pregnant and lactating mothers to help with Reduction in Mortality and Morbidity of mother’s children and Neonates in Delhi and Varanasi. It is a free mobile voice call service which provides culturally appropriate comprehensive information on preventive care and simple interventions to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity, reduce the malnourishment among children. SPID is also working with HIV/AIDS pregnant and lactating women to reduce the vulnerability to transfer of HIV/AIDS infection from mother to child.

SPID- mMitra HIV/AIDS programme is a new initiative for HIV/AIDS positive pregnant women.  The programme’s goal is to enroll women early in their pregnancy to ensure that they adhere to ART through a major part of their pregnancy and continue throughout infancy until the child’s 18 month of age and prevent vertical transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to child. The voice call reminds the beneficiary to do the necessary follow up hospital /ART visits and holding them care process to prevent vertical transmission of HIV/AIDS.

The voice calls focus on:

  1. Pregnancy and infancy careb
  2. Safe Delivery
  3. Preventing vertical transmission during pregnancy delivery and breastfeeding.
  4. Nutrition counselling.
  5. HIV Management.
  6. Reinforcing reminders for ARV Drugs.
  7. Exclusive breastfeeding.
  8. Need for monitoring CD4 and viral load.
  9. Hospital /ART centre visits 

People Reached

Delhi SPID has reached out to 71000 women as a part of this project. Regular follow-up of these women is also taken care of.

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh): All together 10000 beneficiaries have been reached by SPID through the mMitra Programme.

SPID RTP Programme

Rapid Testing Programme on HIV/AIDS and Counselling 

SPID is implementing RTP programme for HIV/AIDS in Delhi and four districts of Uttar Pradesh. The programme is supported by AIDS Health Care Foundation (AHF).

As a part of this project the SPID social workers mobilize the community people on HIV/AIDS through various awareness programme. They also identify the high risk population and conduct pre-testing for them. If anybody found positive, they are linked to the government Integrated Counselling Testing Centre (ICTC) and get the HIV test done.

Once the person is found positive he/she is linked to the Anti Retro-Viral Therapy (ART) centre. Throughout the process the SPID Social Workers facilitate them and ensure better treatment. SPID organizes awareness camp on HIV/AIDS & Rapid Testing program, screening of HIV/AIDS and pre and post-test counselling, linkages and regular follow up of the beneficiaries.

More than 100,000 beneficiaries are directly benefited from this programme and approximately 500,000 people are indirectly benefited. A total of 544 positive people are linked to ART various centres in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

People reached

Uttar Pradesh: SPID runs this programme in four district of the state namely Agra, Mathura and Varanasi. In Uttar Pradesh we have directly reached out to 64926 beneficiaries. Among them, 446 were found positive and 373 are linked to the concerned ART centres. The registration for rest of the beneficiaries is under process.

Delhi: In Delhi 35667 people were directly benefitted from this programme. Out of them 237 were found positive and 171 of them have been enrolled in the ART centre.
