Women Empowerment

SPID Mahila Panchayat Programme 

SPID with the support of Delhi Commission for Women has launched the Mahila Panchayat Programme in Savada Colony of Mundka in Delhi. The programme is implemented in 18 areas under the Kanjhawala Police station in West District of Delhi.

The programme was started for legal empowerment of women and for distress redressal at the community level. SPID through its various activities identifies groups of community women and forms women panchayat in their respective areas and take up local disputes and also assist in reducing violence in the locality.

SPID involves Para-legal workers and train them in various women laws guide them on how to counsel the women in distress. The women panchayat also take up the issue of domestic violence, alcoholism and other social issues in the community. The para-legal volunteers work to empower the community women by providing them knowledge and also introducing them with the existing system like police, district administration etc. 

SPID is running Mahila Panchayat Programme since November 2017 and approximately 2100 women directly and 6000 women indirectly benefitted from this programme. At least 25 women in the area are now capable of solve their own problems and also to help others in distress. 

SPID is committed to the following women empowerment issues:
  1. Increase in self-esteem, individual and collective confidence.
  2. Increase in articulation, knowledge and awareness on health, nutrition reproductive rights, law and literacy
  3. Change in roles and responsibility in family & community
  4. To work on reducing the violence on women and girls
  5. Timely intervention on the social issues like child marriage, dowry, discrimination against widows
  6. Visible changes in women’s participation level attending meeting, participating and demanding participation
  7. Increase access to and ability to gather information
  8. Formation of women collectives
  9. Positive changes in social attitudes
  10. Awareness and recognition of women’s economic contribution within and outside the household
  11. Develop decision making skills.
